Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Crosses 500 Million Tonnes Cargo Milestone To 1 Billion Tonnes By 2030

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has achieved a major milestone by handling over 500 million tonnes of cargo, marking a significant step in its growth journey and reinforcing its position as a key driver of India’s maritime and logistics sector. The achievement reflects not only the scale of operations but also the company’s consistent focus on building a robust, integrated logistics ecosystem aligned with India’s expanding trade ambitions.

From its beginnings in 1998 with a single port-led vision, APSEZ has evolved into one of India’s largest integrated transport and logistics platforms, operating a network of 19 ports and terminals across domestic and international locations. Over the years, the company has played a pivotal role in facilitating trade, supporting industrial growth, and enhancing the country’s global competitiveness through efficient cargo handling and infrastructure development.

Commenting on the milestone, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, emphasised the strategic importance of ports in strengthening national economic confidence. He highlighted that the 500 million tonne mark is not merely a volume achievement but a reflection of the company’s long-term vision of creating a seamless and interconnected logistics network. He also acknowledged the contribution of customers, partners, employees, and the support of central and state governments in enabling this growth.

APSEZ noted that its growth trajectory has accelerated significantly over time. While it took 16 years to reach its first 100 million tonnes, subsequent milestones were achieved at a much faster pace due to improved operational efficiency, expansion of infrastructure, and adoption of advanced logistics solutions. This rapid scaling underscores the increasing demand for efficient port-led logistics services in India’s fast-growing economy.

The company’s integrated approach—combining ports with rail connectivity, road transport, warehousing, trucking, and cargo handling infrastructure—has been central to its success. This end-to-end logistics capability enables faster cargo movement, reduced turnaround times, and cost efficiencies for industries relying on bulk and containerised trade.

Looking ahead, APSEZ has set an ambitious target of handling 1 billion tonnes of cargo annually by 2030. To achieve this, the company plans to continue investing in world-class infrastructure, expand its port and logistics network, and strengthen its position as a leading integrated logistics provider. The milestone highlights APSEZ’s critical role in supporting India’s infrastructure-led growth and its ambition to become a global logistics powerhouse.
